From the recording Last Christmas Day
This song was written after thinking about my father and a couple of close friends who, over the years, died during the holiday season. It's about reaching out, forgiveness, and connecting, not just at Christmas (though that was the occasion for this song) but all year long.
Lyrics
Last Christmas Day
©Greg Shupe (Dec. 2018)
Colored lights have all been strung
Shiny ornaments all been hung
So many Christmas carols sung
It’s a time to be together
Thinking back across the years
Of all the people you’ve held dear
What if you could have them here
To share some cheer and laughter
Chorus
If this were your last Christmas Day
What would you do?
What would you say?
How much love would you give away?
If this were your last Christmas Day
We all have fences we could mend
With long lost family and friends
You could reach out to them again
And meet them in the middle somewhere
A store-bought card is all you’ve got
Not much feeling, not much thought
If you could give it your best shot
How would you show you care?
Chorus
Bridge:
What kind of day would you live?
What kind of person would you be?
What kind of gifts would you give
That don’t go under a tree?
Chorus
